Yesterday, amidst the hustle and bustle of my freelance schedule on Fiverr, I encountered a job post that instantly grabbed my attention. After wrapping up a cybersecurity course for a client and gearing up to dive into another instructional video project, I decided to take a momentary pause. That’s when I stumbled upon a job posting that seemed like a beacon in my sea of daily tasks: “Develop or Sell eLearning Courses in Tourism, Business, and IT with a $1,000 Budget – Instructional Design Freelancer Wanted!” The title alone was a call to action, urging me to explore further.
“Every opportunity is a doorway to new horizons. This one promised a journey through the realms of tourism, business, and IT, challenging yet enriching the path of any eLearning designer.”

With over a decade of experience in crafting eLearning courses, I’ve always sought projects that not only challenge me but also allow me to weave creativity with practical learning objectives. This job posting, with its emphasis on diverse fields such as tourism, business, and IT, presented just that. The autonomy it offered was exhilarating, allowing for creative freedom and the chance to make a significant impact on learners’ experiences across various industries.
As I reflected on this potential project, a flood of memories from a previous eLearning course I developed for an IT Institute in Bangalore washed over me. The complexity and depth of that project, coupled with the rewarding feedback from both the client and the students, reignited my passion and excitement for taking on this new challenge. It reminded me why I delve into the world of eLearning design: to transform dense, intricate subjects into engaging, accessible learning journeys.
The job post detailed a search for an instructional design freelancer or team capable of either developing a custom eLearning solution or providing a ready-made course package. The focus was on OTHM courses covering Tourism and Hospitality Management, Business Management, and IT, among others. The ideal candidate would bring to the table a deep understanding of educational principles, eLearning design, video creation, and LMS consulting—skills I’ve honed over years of dedicated practice and continuous learning.
Conclusion
After careful consideration, I concluded that as much as the project excited me, the $1,000 budget might not align with the level of effort required to produce work that meets my standards of quality and engagement.
Engaging the Hiring Manager
Had I pursued this opportunity, I would have prepared a compelling presentation of my portfolio, highlighting my expertise and previous successes in eLearning design. My message to the hiring manager would have communicated my enthusiasm for the project and my vision for transforming their courses into dynamic, interactive learning experiences.
Clarifying Questions
In discussions with the hiring manager, I would have sought clarity on their specific expectations and the project’s scope, ensuring alignment with my skills and creative approach.
Declining Gracefully
Ultimately, I decided to respectfully decline the opportunity, expressing my gratitude for their consideration and my hope for potential collaboration in the future under different circumstances.
