1. Introduction – About this post (from an eLearning Instructional Designer earning the Top Rated Fiverr Status)
As a seasoned eLearning Instructional Designer, I’ve had the privilege of working on a myriad of projects, each with its unique challenges and rewards. My portfolio, which you can view on scormit.com, showcases a wide range of these projects. I’ve also had the pleasure of working with numerous clients through Fiverr, where I’ve maintained a consistent 5-star rating over 200 orders.
My passion for Instructional Design and Development has spanned over a decade, and I’m always eager to take on new projects. As a Top Rated Fiverr Freelancer, I have a consistent stream of clients and projects, but I’m always interested in new opportunities. One of the most exciting parts of my job is reviewing RFQs, typically from platforms like Fiverr or Upwork. Each new RFQ presents a new challenge, a new opportunity to create something impactful and engaging.
But it’s not just about the work I do; it’s also about the people I work with. I’m in the process of starting a new Instructional Design agency, SCORMit. This venture is a testament to my belief in the power of collaboration and the incredible talent that exists in the remote work community. SCORMit will focus on developing courses for companies that want highly creative courses that solve a business challenge through a learning event, or events.
I’m excited to share more about my process and experiences in this blog post. I invite you to ask any questions you may have in the comments section below. I’ll do my best to respond to each one, so we can all learn and grow together. 3. Activities leading up to receiving the Fiverr Brief
As the soft glow of my computer screen illuminated the room, I was deeply engrossed in a complex JavaScript code for an eLearning course I was designing. The rhythmic tapping of my fingers on the keyboard was the only sound breaking the silence of my home office. My focus was unyielding, my mind completely absorbed in the task at hand.
Just then, my phone buzzed, breaking my concentration. I glanced at the screen, an email notification from Fiverr. The subject line read: “LA-video production: Help create MasterClass- style educational videos for mission-driven org”. My heart skipped a beat. This was the kind of project I thrived on, the kind that made my pulse quicken with excitement.
But I was in the middle of something important. I took a deep breath, reminding myself of the importance of focus and discipline in my line of work. I marked the email as important, promising myself to return to it as soon as I was done with the current task.
As I turned my attention back to the code, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of anticipation. This was the life of a freelancer, a constant juggle of tasks and opportunities, each more exciting than the last. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
4. Response Strategy – Approaching the eLearning Instructional Design inquiry efficiently
As I read through this Fiverr brief, I couldn’t help but be reminded of a similar project I had the pleasure of working on not too long ago. It was a project that required the use of Articulate Storyline 360 to develop an engaging eLearning module, and it was one of those projects that truly allowed me to flex my creative muscles.
The project was for a client who wanted to create an interactive eLearning course for their employees. The course was designed to teach the employees about the company’s new product line, and it needed to be engaging, informative, and easy to navigate. The client also wanted to incorporate AI technology into the course, which was a challenge I was more than ready to take on.
One of the ways I used AI in this project was through the integration of a conversational AI chatbot. This chatbot was designed to pop up at various points throughout the course to answer any questions the learner might have. It was programmed with a vast knowledge base about the company’s new products, and it was able to provide detailed answers to a wide range of questions. This not only made the course more interactive, but it also provided a level of support and guidance that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.
Another way I used AI was through the generation of quiz questions. The AI was programmed to generate questions based on the content of the course, and it was able to provide detailed feedback on the learner’s responses. This allowed the learner to understand where they were going wrong and how they could improve, which greatly enhanced the learning experience.
I also used AI to create a lifelike avatar that guided the learner through the course. This avatar was designed to look and behave like a real person, and it was able to interact with the learner in a natural and engaging way. This added a personal touch to the course and made the learning experience more enjoyable.
Finally, I used AI text-to-speech technology to translate the on-screen text into multiple languages. This allowed the course to be accessible to a wider audience and ensured that everyone could understand the content, regardless of their native language.
Looking back on this project, I’m proud of the work I did and the results I achieved. And as I evaluate this new Fiverr brief, I’m excited about the possibility of bringing the same level of creativity and innovation to this project. I’m confident that my experience and skills make me well qualified for this job, and I look forward to the opportunity to discuss it further with the client.
5. My time is valuable and I need to make a quick decision on applying to this job or not.
As I read through this job posting, my initial reaction is one of intrigue. The project’s scope, which involves creating 16 educational videos in the style of popular online MasterClasses, is a challenge that aligns perfectly with my core competency and passion for creating engaging, interactive eLearning content. The opportunity to work on a project that combines video production, editing, and eLearning design is something that genuinely excites me.
However, as I delve deeper into the job description, I notice a few potential challenges. The first is the location requirement. As a freelancer, I’ve built my career around the flexibility and freedom that remote work provides. While I understand the need for a local professional for on-site video recording, I believe that with today’s technology, a lot of the work can be done remotely. This is something I’ve successfully done with numerous clients on my Fiverr profile.
The second challenge is the timeline. The project requires availability for video recording in May, with a deadline for editing completion by May 20th. This is a tight schedule, especially considering the number of videos to be produced. However, I’m confident that with my experience and the support of my team at SCORMit, we can meet this deadline without compromising the quality of the final product.
Lastly, the budget. At $5,000, it’s a fair budget for a project of this scale. However, considering the complexity of the project and the tight deadline, I believe a higher budget would be more appropriate. This is something I would be open to discussing with the client, as I believe in providing value for money and ensuring that the client gets the best possible product.
Despite these challenges, I’m still inclined to apply for this job. The opportunity to create engaging, high-quality educational videos is something I’m passionate about, and I believe that with my skills and experience, I can deliver a product that exceeds the client’s expectations. However, I would need to have a detailed discussion with the client about the project’s scope, timeline, and budget to ensure that we’re both on the same page before proceeding.
6. Conclusion & Next Steps – How I organize, prepare, and respond to the request.
Responding to the Brief: A Freelancer’s Strategy
When I receive a Fiverr Brief, my initial approach is systematic – akin to prepping for a game of chess. The first step is acknowledging the essence of the numbers game. Time is literally of the essence. Respond quickly, yes, but with precision – crafting a personalized response that lets the client know they aren’t just another number to me.
Engagement Over Exhibition: While I’m poised to dazzle prospects with my portfolio, I hold back just a touch. Through experience, I’ve gleaned that clients crave understanding – that feel of being deeply heard and comprehended. So, I fashion my reply interspersed with probing questions rather than a blizzard of past achievements.
This isn’t about showcasing but about connection. I align my questions to the specifics of their project. For example, in the MasterClass-style videos inquiry, I may ask:
- What’s the core message they wish to convey through these videos?
- Are there existing styles or formats they’re particularly fond of?
- What are the intended learning outcomes for the viewers?
Only then do I segue into displaying my portfolio’s relevant examples, which can be swiftly presented during an impromptu Zoom meeting with a mere screen share.
In terms of immediacy, I am always ready for a surprise meeting call, but with the understanding that schedules can clash. If I’m not available straightaway, I suggest alternative timings with a zest that reflects my eagerness to immerse myself in their vision.
Negotiations are inevitable, more so on platforms like Fiverr where a fixed bid is the norm. It’s a fine balance between cost and feasibility. Conversations about timelines and budgeting are delicate; hence, I tactically introduce the concept of milestones – breaking down the gargantuan task into manageable morsels.
Lastly, I’ve found that opening a dialogue by asking about the client’s budget and then working backward from there can be productive. Doing so allows me to tailor my services to their financial constraints while allowing for candid discussions about what we can realistically achieve within their budget and timeframe.
This proactive, communicative, and empathetic approach has not just won me projects, but also long-standing relationships in the eLearning industry. As I contemplate applying for the job in question, I’m already mentally arranging my chess pieces for a triumphant checkmate.
